Surface Treatments of Natural Fibres in Fibre Reinforced Composites: A Review

چکیده

Abstract The use of natural fibres in fibre-reinforced composites comes with drawbacks. They are highly hydrophilic, leading to high moisture absorption and poor interfacial adhesion matrix-reinforcement bonds. This affects the fibres’ thermal stability as well mechanical properties, hence limiting their wider application. paper reviewed different ways which have been treated improve hydrophobicity, reinforcement-matrix stability. It will investigate. among others, treatments like alkali, acetylation, bleaching, silane, benzoylation plasma, found fibre hydrophobicity. literature showed that these methods work mechanical, chemical, morphological properties by removing amorphous surface, thus allowing for more efficient load transfer on fibre-matrix surface. Studies alkali treatment be most common surface modification due its simplicity effectiveness. However, plasma has emerged lower processing time chemical consumption. A comparative analysis other improved was also investigated.
